TechnipFMC Secures $1 Billion Petrobras Contract for Mero 3 Subsea Project in Brazil

Offshore leader to provide cutting-edge HISEP technologies, advancing subsea processing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Offshore contracting industry leader TechnipFMC has secured a substantial contract from Petrobras for the execution of the Mero 3 project within Brazil’s pre-salt field, with a contract value exceeding $1 billion.

The publicly traded company, headquartered in New York, will be responsible for the comprehensive provision of design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation of subsea equipment critical to the success of the HISEP (High-Pressure Separation) project. This scope includes the deployment of manifolds, flexible and rigid pipes, umbilicals, power distribution systems, and life-of-field services. The primary objective of the HISEP initiative is to leverage subsea processing techniques for the capture of carbon dioxide-rich dense gases, subsequently injecting them into the reservoir.

TechnipFMC, in collaboration with Petrobras, has made significant advancements in qualifying essential core technologies vital for the complete subsea implementation of the HISEP process. Some of these technologies are proprietary and are earmarked for application in various subsea scenarios beyond the immediate project.

The deployment of HISEP technologies allows the relocation of a portion of the separation process from the traditional topside platform to the seafloor. Beyond the evident reduction in greenhouse gas emission intensity, HISEP technologies contribute to increased production capacity by alleviating bottlenecks in the topside gas processing plant.

Petrobras and its partners in the Libra Consortium, including Shell, TotalEnergies, CNOOC Petroleum, CNODC, and Pré-Sal Petróleo as the Brazilian government’s representative in the non-contracted area, have expressed support for these cutting-edge technologies.

Luana Duffé, the Executive Vice President of New Energy at TechnipFMC, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “With the HISEP project, we will again demonstrate how our leadership in subsea processing, technology innovation, and integrated solutions can deliver real and sustainable benefits to our partners.”
